Anyone out there in motorboat land that can tell me the year of my 115
Merc outboard? S#A127960 MDL#1115762. And is there a certain depth the prop should be in the water. As in too low to cause problems to get up on plane? How do you know when you need a jackplate?

General rule of thumb is to have your anti-cavitation plate, or vent plate inline with the bottom of the hull, or upto 1 inch above the bottom of the hull. The vent plate is the biggest horizontal piece of the LU casting, and it the first horizontal surface you will encounter upwards from your prop.

It's also an 85 motor.

On a jack plate, seems everyone I've read on here that uses one gets results and in some instances significant results. But you have other things to consider because that is only one part of changing your "setup" (as the big boys on here say) and you have trim, max rpm, prop and water inlet concerns.

Agree if you want to kiss, 1" above is the place to be. That's where I am with no setback mechanism.
