Any suggestions on a older motor say late 60's to early 70's. I would like between a 50 70 hp and a reliable known engine with depndability

Re: motor

Johnson, Evinrude, Mercury, take your pick. I'd suggest a 70's engine because they have roller bearings instead of babbit (sp) inserts. Also the 70's engines have cdi instead of points, distributor etc.Two cycle engines o/b's can be worn out but it takes a long, long time. They usually die of neglect and lack of maintainence.

c/6

Hooty

IF you can find a Johnson or Evinrude 1974-75 in good condition that would be a good choice.Had a '74 Johnson 70 hp.Best motor I ever ownwed.Had for 5 years replaced water pump once, powerpack once(was origial powerpack)and plugs.Very reliable to me.... ;)

I would stay away from a 1965 75-V4 omc...they are good runners and reliable but the later 3 cyl 60s and 70s were sooo much stronger and reliable too.

Just last week I believe it was ADIM5 who stated that it would be a good idea, "not to post unless you had something to say"
