Buy an airliine ticket and ride it back here. Have fun and it will be cheaper.

Re: Motorcycle Shipping

Riding in West Virginia and heading west in November is not a great idea!
One of those auto transport companies would be pricey.
If you could get it crated up good a trucking company would be cheapest.
Check with some LTL carriers like ABF,Yellow,ect..

Re: Motorcycle Shipping

got a quote aleady under $600 door to door (2100 +miles) ..soft tied..might get a few on/offs in a few trucks/trailer's (railed..motorcycle specific)...no biggie..its in the open (enclosed trailer)..either rear lifts or ramps..no crates...(been there, seen the mess that comes out...idiots with forklifts don't care if they knock it over)..45 years saddle time, and I told him...its bikers doing this as sub agents, but they are the middlemen... next is a fast call to my INS friend/agent. Told them ya bust a mirror, "Outlaw" friends coast to coast...and bored with the winter coming in...and although it can be left gassed and ready to go...Its gonna be drained, and no key..my terms..we'll see ..m/l

Re: Motorcycle Shipping

I shipped three cars and 2 bikes 1200 mi all enclosed. They damaged 2 cars but the bike came through perfect. My advice- take pictures, lots of them. Then pray. Because the claims process stinks and it's hard to come out whole, especially on custom stuff.

Re: Motorcycle Shipping

Forward Air.

I bought my last bike from a guy in Kansas City. Forward Air has a terminal at the Pittsburgh Airport, so the shipping cost wasn't so bad. They ship in a fully enclosed aluminum container. You drain all the fluids and put your bike into the container and use your own straps, then lock it with your own locks.

When you pick it up, they are present when you unlock it and inspect it. My experience is that they are a quality operation.

BTW...It's a sportbike, not a crotch rocket, but I'm a motorcyclist not a biker.

Easy here...47 years saddletime myself, and means nothing to me what anyone rides, whats it called, or where we go..just let me know where, so I pull out the right bike for the intended ride road..:D
(latest quote is on a pallet door to door for around $650..and yep, lots of pix, and a prayer)

Re: Motorcycle Shipping

I sold a bike on ebay years ago and they guy who purchased it had it shipped. I was impressed at the shipping end.... enclosed trailer with a pallet that was blocked to fit the wheels. Nice set-up..... I would insude the dog %@&! out of it!

Re: Motorcycle Shipping

Its going on a pallet, and a truck (still transfered, but never leaves the pallet (it will be branded and a lock of mine put on )..thing is the dudes that do the "leave it ready to go" and only rail it (no "skid") in trailer, will have the bike moved 4-5-6-12 times..who knows in 2000 miles on transfer..and with the on off..one tip over by a newbie, and I'd have to track'em down and shoot'em..

Re: Motorcycle Shipping

Why not take it apart and put it into a few crates and ship it with the lowest rate possible.who cares if it takes a couple of weeks to get it all delivered.

I had a Harley sportster shipped here from near washington dc last year. Cost $770.00, was here 10 days early  on a pallet in a box truck! I don't remember who it was but I have records, they were recomended by ebay (I think owned by ebay as well). I'll pull the file and post back.

Re: Motorcycle Shipping

Wow. Shipping seems to have gone up a lot. Mine was ~$350 by air. That was 4 years ago.

Yep, just about doubled last few years...they blame it on gas prices, phase of the moon, lawyers, Bush, who knows!

Re: Motorcycle Shipping

Ended up with "ForwardAir"...$450 something. Drag it to a terminal, their crate, you tie it and lock it up, pick up at a Terminal near the destination..

Re: Motorcycle Shipping

If they do as well as mine and a few friends, you won't be disappointed.

What kind of bike is it btw?

Well the $450 crate was too small on the ForwardAir.... and the next up was $629, and a hassle to do the drop and P/U at terminals..
Went with and ended up doing JC transports (google it)..Zone one, to Zone 4...$725, $7000 ins, no deduct, one time load on a pallet.. door to door on a 18 wheeler, they do the work (one pallet..soft tie, cover..stays on the pallet, but will be moved from the truck at times..still same pallet)..checked them all...seems the best deal for zero work..
Anyway, 95 Honda CBR1000f (worked over..VH 4 to 1.. Can, jetted, figure back up to 150hp crank with the work.., 135 RW...(stock 135 crank)) ..prime..friend of a friend with health problems in WV..me in WA state. ..just today moved the Harley Bagger off to one side, Harley shovelhead off to the other, HD dragbike in the bump position..pup will go in the middle..close the door, leave them alone for the old girls to tell the young'un the rules..going on 48 years real soon saddle time myself..(started at 10, now 57..soon 8..)
Maybe I'll grow up someday..:rolleyes::D
