Variable forward and reverse . This motor once you turn on the switch it runs one speed constantly. Happened before. I took it apart and the 4 prong plug with 3 wires was very loose. I cleaned it all reconnected and super glued the plug down. Worked awesome for 3 months until yesterday and now back to always on.
I cleaned it re glued the plug BUT didnt correct it this time. HELP?
Thanks!

I have a the same problem with mine. Only thing different is 82lbs thrust and 24V. came in the garage one day and it was running wide open. still havent figured anything out. Where was this 4 prong plug at? dont know if how old matters on how they were built.

I pulled the motor apart. Pretty simple construction. 2 wall magnets. The motor spindle and wiring. A computer circuit board. The plug is on this motherboard. The prongs (4) look like l l l l perpendicular to the circuit or motherboard.

Do you have the CONT/MOM switch set to CONT by any chance. CONT stands for "continuous" so when the swtich is on the motor runs at whatever speed you have selected. Perfectly normal. When set to MOM (momentary) it should run only you step on the GO button.

Re: Motorguide 54 lb thrust alway runs

I took the lower unit apart and found the four prong conector. everything looked good there. The only switch there is on the unit is on/off. I have a transom unit, even when I turn the handle to adjust the speed it does nothing. THe only thing to replace would be the circuit board or the the other piece attached to the board. Can't seem to get anything figuerd out yet or any body that has parts.

Sounds like the switch in the head is bad. The speed selector is up top, not in the lower unit.

Re: Motorguide 54 lb thrust alway runs

First i have to say thanks for trying to deal with my problem, it is getting frustating. The only switch in the head is the on/off, and that works like it should. I thought the speed selector was bad right away and took that out of the circuit and tried the motor to see what would happen and as soon as I turned the switch on it started running wide open again. that is why I am thinking there is something wrong in the lower unit.
