My neighbor gave me a Brute 750 trolling motor last night (very nice of him) and I was wondering if anyone could give me some help. I have a 1990 bayliner capri 1800 bowrider with a Force 90 on it. The motor he gave me has a bow mount attached.
Can anyone give me any ideas on how to mount this and make it work?
Also, I have no wiring diagrams or knowledge on how to hook it up to power. It appears to have a factory made male connector, but where would I get the female side to connect to the battery?

Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Connectors are available at any marine dealer, or at any department or farm store that sells fishing and boating supplies. You need to determine if the motor requires a 12V or 24V power source. You need a single deep cycle battery for a 12V motor or two batteries wired in series for a 24V motor. I would assume this is a sissor mount so it would mount at an angle off the front of the boat. If you have a bow rail, you have some interference problems to contend with. Before you start, make sure the length of the shaft is long enough for your boat. Measure the distance from the bow to the water line and add one foot. Then measure the length of the motor shaft from the bracket to the prop shaft. Too short is a problem. Too long is not.

I think the brute 750 is a 12/24 volt motor that can be switched between the two with a switch on the side of the pedal.
Any boat supply will have the materials you need and an internet search will get you a few different wiring diagrams that will probably fit your needs.
Good Luckd:)

Re: Motorguide Brute 750

For 12 AND 24 systems there are a couple of ways is accomplished. How it is achieved depends on whether or not there is a 12/24V switch on the boat. Your boat more than likely does not have that switch and it's not necessary anyway since the motor has a 12/24 switch on the motor control. The previous diagrams are correct for 12V ONLY or 24V ONLY systems. They will not work for your motor. They would, but not as intended. Using the 12V schematic you would have poor performance on the 24V setting but the motor would be dead on 12V. With the 24 schematic you would have normal operation on 24v setting and the motor would be dead on the 12v setting. Here's the way it needs to be for your motor. If your motor has a four-terminal plug on it, post back because there is another scheme that must be used.

Re: Motorguide Brute 750

Ok, I am getting very frustrated with this 12/24 volt stuff. My trolling motor would only work intermittently. After a lengthy process, I figured out the previous owner changed the plug going into the panel... and did a crappy job splicing the wires. I fixed that. However, in the process, I did all the wrong things while troubleshooting. I didn't mark where any wires went. The current 12/24 switch was busted off; but, the motor still occassionally worked. Now it doesn't work at all. I either messed the switch up, or I have the wires hooked up to the switch wrong. Can someone tell me where the wires are supposed to connect to the switch (coming from the batteries). ie - red and orange on one side, both blacks on the other, etc.

Sorry to bring up a old thread but what rating of fuse should I use on that diagram?
