I have a Motorguide Tour Edition Digital 82# foot control. I was using it yesterday, when I took foot off micro switch, it kept going. I was using it on "high bypass". I took foot off switch it kept going. Then it stopped and wouldn't come on (didn't realize till working on it today that it blew breaker). I put a new switch on it that I had, reset the breaker, and it runs full out. I can switch to momentary, constant, or high bypass and it's always 100% on. Mess with rheostat, no changes. No matter what control I mess with, it's wide open. Don't know what to do? Does the High bypass / constant / momentary switch go bad and cause this? Afraid it's something in the bottom of the motor in the board.

Not familiar with your exact model, but yes the switch can go bad and short out therefore making the trolling motor on all the time. I'd check that switch first if it were me. If you know how to use a meter, check the switch for short...

I put a brand new switch on it. Still runs 100% all the time, regardless of where the "high bypass" switch or rheostat is set. Have to unhook battery terminal to kill it. I'm afraid it's in the lower unit board. Anybody know??

Does this trolling motor have a foot pedal button to push to go? Because that switch can be stuck or shorted as well...

Okay knowing electronics very well, with the info you provided, there is no way for the trolling motor to be stuck "on" continuously without some change in the wiring. Electricity doesn't magically jump across two switches and run the motor. So you either rewired this incorrectly or you have more defective switches. No other issue that could cause your problem. And the motor section can't be the problem because there has to be voltage going to that section for it to be able to run continuously. So I don't see any issue, at this time, with the actual motor section. You still have either a wiring issues OR defective switches. And that fact that you stated that you already changes both switches, being the three-way toggle switch and the momentary foot push switch, leads me to believe it is the wiring error... Do you own a multi-meter (DVM, Volt/ohm meter, VOM, or what ever)? And if so, do you know how to use it? And if so check out the wiring on those two switches again using the meter...

Although you replaced the switch, you possibly replaced the wrong one. The high bypass function allows the motor to run at high speed without the need to have your foot on the "GO" button. Continuous allows the same function as high bypass but in the continuous mode the speed is still selected with the speed selector where high bypass does not. So check the high bypass switch -- it is probably stuck on or shorted ON internally.

Untrue, "high bypass" throws the motor to max power, but still have to use the foot switch to move.

Also, there is a circuit board in the lower unit of the "digital" models. Not as simple as it seems. Thanks anyway.
