Re: Motorguide question
How old is this motor, what size is it, what model is it, and is it a 12V or 24V model or a 12 AND 24 volt version? What you probably are seeing is the circuit breaker tripping, automatically resetting, and then tripping again. Why -- you will undoubtedly ask! Well, the motor is drawing more current than the circuit breaker is rated for. If we knew what motor you had and what size the circuit breaker is, we could tell you how to fix it but the answer is probably going to be to install a bigger breaker. But before you do that, you need to know what gauge the wiring is between the battery and the motor. If it's current rating is smaller than the motor requires and you install a bigger breaker, the wires will get hot, melt the insulation and possibly start a fire. Fire is not a good thing on a boat even if it is sitting in water.
