Motorguide switch won't release

After the momentary foot switch stopped working on my Motorguide trolling motor, I was told to check the rubber boot that fits on top of the switch. It was torn so I replaced it. Then the switch would not release after taking your foot off of the controller unless you pulled up on the side of it. I then replaced the entire switch with a new rubber boot and still have the same problem. I have taken the switch in and out several times and it seems to work correctly until I spend a couple hours on the water. It seems like such a simple thing to be having problems with but I am out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Check that sand is not getting wedged where it shouldn't or that something on the switch is binding on whatever its mounted to. I had a similar problem on my previous troller. Try it without the boot (temporarily). If it works ok without it, the boot is either not installed correctly or maybe its too stiff. At least you'll know that's the problem.
