I put my 12/14 volt motor back together and would like to test before mounting back on shaft and running wires back up thru shaft.......I have 4 wires,,,(red + ) (black-) and blue and yellow,,,what are the blue and yellow,I would like to put power to this motor before I go any farther and not sure how I should test

.....the red and black are maybe 10 ga and the blue and the yellow wire are 14 ga.... this is the wires coming off the brush plate.....I notice the 12 volt trolling motor also has 4 wires same color code.........I am rebuilding the 12/24 motor out of parts from a 12 volt motor, the parts I needed are the same as far as I can tell,, Brush plate and end caps...

I thought you were talking about the four wires from the foot control that go to the connector at the bow. Switching for 12/24 is on the foot control. I will dig out a diagram that I had long ago to see if it matches what you have. The four wires go to the speed switch on the foot control. The diagram I have doesn't have color codes on them but they come from the speed coils in the motor. I would hazard a guess that the red is high speed, the other larger wire would be speed the next lowest speed and the other two are the speed 1 and 2.

I took a chance and hook the red to + and the black to _ and it is running very nice and smooth....its a 5 speed ...I went ahead at this point ran the wires back thru the shaft and got it all back together but got to pick up some fuses for the battery.....I take it the other 2 wires have something to do with the speed control...
