V10 Triton engine.

When you start it, the overdrive is automatically on and then you push the button on the end of the gear shift to take it out of overdrive. I can not get it to come out of overdrive. I have replaced the button, that didn't help. Any ideas what it could be?

Also, when you are running on the water tanks you have to turn on the water pump. Usually when you don't have water running the pump turns off. My pump will not stop running without manually turning it off.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Re: Motorhome help

On the pump issue it sounds like you have a leak in the system.
The pump is preset to shut off at a certain psi..

The overdrive i have no clue...:)

Re: Motorhome help

Just called the RV shop, they said if you can't find any leaks then the pressure valve in the pump is bad. They said to replace the pump is pretty easy, so hopefully I can do that myself.

The overdrive was that way when I bought the RV. It is just really bugging me. I would like to get it fixed, but at least I can still drop it down into 2nd.

No tach, but I have hit the button driving down the road and didn't hear the engine rpm's come up or feel it drop into a lower gear, will try again today.

Depending on the brand of pump, you can replace just the pressure switch, they are also adjustable. You may not need to buy a complete pump.

Do you have an accumulator inline? that may need repairing/adjusting.

Hmmm here's a look from another direction on the Overdrive issue.

Are you sure it is in fact getting to Overdrive and not just hanging in 3rd?

If it has a lockup converter you should feel or hear 3 firm shifts and one slightly softer shift as the converter locks up.

What's the cruise RPM at what speed and gear ratio / tire size?

You've replaced the switch. Did you use a meter to see if it was passing ground or current?( probably negatively switched ) There is most likely a relay and a fuse involved in there too. There are alot of variables to consider here.

Re: Motorhome help

I would take it to a trusted shop and put on a scanner. It sounds like you may have a wiring issue. There may be a wire that has rubbed through ether in the trans itself or in the wiring harness. Ford pickups are famous for rubbing through the wires on the drivers inner fender under the brake booster.

Just a thought.Take the steering coulomb cover off and follow the wires were they go over the steering coulomb from the shifter. If I am right there should be 3 micro wires and they rub right there. hope this helps

Re: Motorhome help

Hmm,, let me throw you some info on the OD issue.

Can you count/feel gear changes? If so, how many.

It being a 1999, the TCM (trans control mod) handles the transmission functions. That said, your OD is more than likely wired with 3 wires; a ground, 5v reference wire and a signal wire.

More than likely the TCC solenoid is bad, thats prob 85% of the repairs on lost OD. The OD switch signals the TCM, the TCM comands the converter to lock by way of the TCC solenoid.
