Is it possible to buy a new boat without a motor? I have a 1 year old 60 hp Mercury and thought about buying a boat with no motor. It seems like all the manufactures only sell complete packages.

Find yourself a dealer and explain to them what you want to do, I am sure you will find one that will be willing to sell just a hull, I know of one large sporting goods dealer who does it, they start with "C" I see them advertising hulls all the time.

Money talks. No dealer is going to turn down a sale. HOWEVER: You most likely will need to special order and wait. And special order means you may not get as good a deal as on a complete package. OR---Go to that store mentioned above if you want a hull geared more to hunting and fishing.

By the way, you didn't mention what type of hull you are looking for? Glass, Aluminum, Hunting/Fishing, Skiing, driving? Etc. Lots of options out there, and sometimes at this time of year you can directly contact manufactures and they will see overstock hulls to people.

Well, then go to big "C" or Bass Pro if you have either of those in your area, both of them sell hulls, do you have a trailer? in the 16 to 17 foot range, it is really not going to be a boat you throw in the back of your truck, and actually I just went out and looked a bare hull Lowe 17 footer this afternoon, that I can pick up for less than a thousand dollars, so looking at a almost new used bare hull is an option as well. Good luck, I am sure there are many out there that will fit the bill for you.

Alumacraft is one of the few "majors" that offers what's called a "no pre-rig" (no pre-rigging). This is a boat with all of the stuff you would normally get (the boat, the instruments, seats, steering, etc.,) except it does not have the motor or controls. I've been down this road twice with exactly the type of boat you are looking for which would be an Alumacraft Navigator 165 CS. The 175 would be a little too much boat for a 60 HP motor. The 165 is very nice boat and it would be very happy with the 60 Merc. The 75 HP Merc on mine was perfect.

Thanks Silvertip. I have a trailer. I've tried Bass Pro and the price was 95% of the full package. If you have ever seen some of my older posts you will know that my hull has some corrosion issues, although it has been holding up very well for a couple of years now. Just thinking about another boat.;)

Might look at nearly new boats in your area. Pick the motor you like most and sell the other.
