Motors up or down when not in use at the dock?

I've got twin yamaha 250's that I keep tilted up at the dock to keep clean. The lower unit remains slightly in the water (saltwater), and the zincs are completely out. An old timer gave me the what-for the other day, saying I was destroying them as they weren't protected by the zincs. If I leave them down, they get covered quickly in that lovely sludge found at most marinas.

I'd greatly appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks.

If you zincs aren't in the water they won't do you any good. So keep the motors low enough to submerge the zincs, but get dirty, or raise them completely out of the drink...especially in salt water.

Any chance you could bolt on a zinc where the lower unit is in contact the water??

I like the idea of adding a removable zinc that would allow me to keep them up. Could you briefly describe the detail?

I put in a basic lift and believe I have left behind many-a-problem regarding galvanic corrosion, growth, and filth.

If you do decide to leave them trimmed up, make sure they drain awhile in full down trim position before you trim them up for storage. I have a feeling powerheads don't like water sitting in them. d:)

Are you sure that you dont have another sink anode bolted under the PT&T unit? I have one on my merc.

I was told the danger of leaving the engine down was water entering the cylinder/crank case via the exhaust - this was for a two stroke.
