Mounting 75 Mercury 650 clamp-on on BIA-drilled boat

I just bought an 1984 Stott Craft, and I need to mount my 1975 Mercury 650 on it. The Mercury is a clamp-on with bolt holes on the bottom, but the pattern is not BIA (it's narrower.) The boat is drilled for a BIA-standard - it had a Yamaha 50 with oil injection whose owner decided to pre-mix without modifying the engine, removing the oil injection, or even re-jetting, and blew it up. Does anyone know of an adapter plate, jack plate, etc. that will bolt to an old Merc and to a BIA-drilled boat? So far the only thing I've seen is the CMC tilt/trim with transom-mount adapter, and that's quite pricey. Panther has a drillable spacer plate, but it's only drillable in the same vertical plane as the BIA pattern - won't work for my purposes.

Thanks!

fill the old bolt holes with epoxy. i used marine tex to fill mine. works great.

then just make some new holes for the bottom holes and have at it. go fishing, go cruising, JUST GO!!!

and make sure you seal the new holes with something like 3m 5200 or similar so you dont get water in there. remember, WATER + WOOD = MULCH

I thought of that, but hopefully when I replace the motor it will be a later model with BIA-standard holes, and I'd rather not have an extra set of holes in the transom if I can help it.

MW

then fill the old ones again. just keep filling the bolt holes with epoxy. your not gonna keep making new holes each time, just redrilling the old ones back out again.

Mike, You can buy a Jack Plate (about $150), which will have BIA-pattern on both sides. You can then redrill the motor side of the Jack Plate to fit your old Merc.

I thought of that, but the jack plates I've seen advertised are not solid, but cast with fins. In my conversations with one manufacturer I learned that although it can be drilled, it can only be drilled with the same spacing as the BIA holes - not really doing my any good. Also, for a clamp-on motor, the width of transom and jack plate is too large for the clamps.

I think I'll just go ahead and drill out two more holes. I can always fill them later.

Thanks!

MW
