I just purchased a 1978 Johnson and want to mount it on my blue-fin. I currently am running a 50hp force which was a factory set-up. I'm not sure if the controls are strictly "force" controls, but I would really like to not have to mount my "old" ugly control box from the johnson motor I just purchased. Is it possible get the wiring diagrams and wire them up??? I have a manual and wiring diagram for the johnson on its way, the force no manual and no diagram as of late. Just wondering if it is possible... Looking forward to this challanging project...

I think that you are going to have to use the OMC controls, the ends are different. Maybe someone makes different style ends to convert it over.

Yeah, I'm also worried about the cables. I don't think that they will convert over either. With controls and wiring I'm taking on a pretty big task. Just thought I might get someone who has done it or attempted to reply. Thanks for the quick reply, I haven't given up yet...:)

Daviet is correct. The standard Johnson control box has a wiring harness with a unique red plug which matches the one inside the cowling of the engine.
