I've noticed the mounting bracket on my 87 Force 125 split in half right where it bolts through the transom. Does anybody know where I can find a replacement part and if not how can I fix this problem? I was thinking of joining the split ends together with a few hose clamps and calling it a day but would that hold being that the boat will be in the water for the next few months? Any answers would be greatly appreciated...thanks. -Paul

Re: Mounting Bracket

That's a common problem. The stainless bolt sets up a galvanic reaction with the aluminum. Aluminum corrosion is about ten times the volume of mass aluminum so pressure builds up and the clamp splits.

Fix it as soon as you can by replacing the clamps! That is not something to ignore or jerry rig.

Replace with the old style Force or Chrysler clamps with screws and pads for the inside of the transom.

Send a private message to Chitownborn. He has a Force he is parting out. He may have a couple of good transom clamps.

If you do buy the same type clamps, be sure to slather the bolts with either silicone RTV or anti-seize to insulate them from the aluminum.
