Hi gentlemen,

just replaced 20" 90hp w/ 125hp 25". ( really a great deal). Both used, cheaper 125 than rebuild 90 that said, pull toys behind 19' fish and ski.

The short shaft would " ventilate " so I figured longer might be better.

new A/V plate is about 3" below bottom of boat. havn't had inwater yet still chilly yet.

I have read post on this but not exactly sure how bad this could be.

You need to raise it at least 3" to avoid extra drag.

Lots of things can cause ventilation. I don't think using a 20" (long) shaft properly trimmed caused your problem. My guess is trimmed too far out and/or set too high up.

thank you guys, thinking I'm going to try to find a "transom plate"( sic ) I saw on another post.

With a 125, make sure you do it well and reinforce it to take the loads imposed. Don't do it "half fast."
