Re: Mounting fishfinder transducer on my fish&ski Q6

I just installed my Humminbird 768. Picture is attached here. This position has worked great for me even at high speeds which is when the waterflow around the position of the transducer can impact the perfomance. My install instructions were to install it 15" from the actual prop (not shown in the picture), which is why i didn't just go straight down like I have seen others installed.
This is what I remember for tips. Hope it helps
Tips: make sure you have a powerfull drill and a good set of drill bits.
My 14.4V drill kept catching while trying to drill through the transom for the tranducer cable hole up top. My transducer cable had a good sized connector at the end so it needed a 5/8" drill bit (The chuck on my drill did not fit a 5/8, so I used a 1/2" drill bit). The weak drill and smaller bit paired together made it very difficult to a) get through the transom and b) make the hole big enough to get the 5/8" cable through.
Before making the hole for the tranducer cable, look through the engine compartment first and make some rough measurements so that you know your drilling into a spot that is open from obstructions in the engine compartment.
This boat is new to me too and now that I know about the serious meandering, I may have thought twice about putting the tranducer so far over. I may soon want to put smart tabs on too and that may impact the performance of the fishfinder (if it is not completely in the way that is).
Remember to put some marine grade caulk in all the holes you make.
Don't mount the transducer near the trailer boards (if you have a trailer).
Make sure to mount the transducer at a parallel angle to the ground (not the boat).
