Mounting Fuel/Water Separator

Just installed a Racor fuel/water separator with the clear plastic bowl in the splashwell in my boat. I mounted it there so that I could see the fuel bowl contaminants and ease of replacement of cartridges. Where I mounted it was not exactly verticle, maybe 5 to 10 degrees off verticle. Will this tilt of the filter cause a problem in operation? The Racor installation instructions didn't mention that it had to be verticle for proper operation.

Nah. Many are mounted on the inside of transoms which are a few degrees tilted and they work just fine.

Good question. I would like to know what the maximun height above the fuel tank is acceptable.

no fuel pump can pump more that 30 inches of lift
from bottom of fuel pickup to lowest fuel pump

Using what size and how much hose? Waht about the Pressure drop through the filters. Is this a concern also?

Re: Mounting Fuel/Water Separator

size of the hose needs to be the size the manufactures want per HP or size
it has nothing to do with the bigger hose

that is a manufacture thing
30" is max lift, for pulse type pumps, which most engines are

So does this mean I can install a second tank with a selector value and another 15'-18' of hose and not affect performance of the fuel pump? I thought hoses had to be sized according to flows and pressure drops for pumps to function properly?
