I've always used Lowrance and they're transducers are narrow. The Garmins are near twice as wide, so when following the directions, on a glass hull you're suppose to have 1/8 of the transducer below the hull. First of all, the transducer is concaved, so are you suppose to have the first 1/8 below the hull or low enough to have the entire perimeter of the foot below the hull? Also, if I mount it 18 inches from the center of the boat, I'll be on the angle portion of the bottom. That means that half of the transducer will be far past the 1/8 limit and the part closest to the center will be nearer to what they want.

This is brand new and I want it to be right the first time. What do ya think? This is on the 541s model.

Re: Mounting Garmin transducer

OK. I was reading the main instructions on how to install the thing, but it wasn't very thorough. After looking through the box, I found another set of instructions, why two sets???, that answered my guestions.

Thanks!
