mounting minn kota on 1995 Lowe 170 Bass Boat?

So I got a new PowerDrive 2 trolling motor. I installed it where my older motor was, but it is not right at the very tip of the bow. It is off to the side...long way to the side as there was wood under the aluminuim for support. However, I know this can't be right as it "should" be right by the very tip of the bow.

However, I know there is no wood support at the tip. Is the metal at the tip good enough to support the motor? The way it hangs over the edge, it isn't working very well where it is mounted now and I would love to move it, but not sure about the support. I am hoping somone out there has a boat like mine and can help me. Right now it really moves the support it is on (too much in my opinion) and I am afraid it might be worse at the bow.

Wouldn't have been an issue if the minn kota didn't need to hang over so much.

So why not add some plywood for support under the bow and mount it where should be. A power drive V2 doesn't extend over the bow very far at all.

There isn't much room to get wood in there. I only have the access provided by removing the power plug plate... maybe 3" by 4". I am hoping I can get my hand in to put on the washers and lock nuts.

i have the same boat with a powerdrive v2 mounted on it,, i used a block of wood mounted to the deck and mounted powerdrive on the wood,, the wood footprint is larger than the motor,, i also put 2 heavy metal screws into the round railing had to drill holes in the motor base for them works good no movement,, you are right that prop has to be deep or will cavitate the water

i like it very much, it has a 40 hp mercury, with remote controls and power trim

Well, I mounted a piece of oak under the trolling motor on the front of the boat. It is very solid and works great! Not the prettiest thing, but once I get some black paint, it will look pretty good.

I wish I had tilt and trim on mine. I will just have to add it to my wish list....list keeps getting longer I only have 25hp on mine as it is the largest I can run on the lake I always fish.
