I need to know what kind of bolts I need to mount my Evinrude 1970 60HP 3 cyl model # 60073 to my transom. Is there a special bolt to use & how many would I need. this is my 1st non screw clamp outboard and I'm not quite sure what to use.

Re: Mounting outboard

I think they are just 1/2" diameter stainless steel Hex head screws and bolts. Get them long enough to use one regular bolt and then an aircraft bolt (the self locking ones with the nylon insert)so they don't work loose. Just make sure they are long enough for both bolts. And of couse washers.

Don't forget to use sealer on the bolt holes in the transom before you mount the motor....

i believe dave was saying get your bolts long enough so taht you can put 2 nuts on them, a regular nut and a nylon locking nut.

Also, make sure you get the washers for both sides...

Thanks guys, I will see if the local hardware store or home depot has them. If not I guess I will have to pay marina prices at the marina. One more question,,, What kind of sealer would you recomend for the holes?

Re: Mounting outboard

Thanks again guys. I apreciate the info every time I come here. One of these days, I will attempt to post a photo of my boat. as long as I don't sink it first.. :D :D Its a 1965 15' Glassmaster that had a 40 Johnson on it, but I could not get the driveshaft out to replace the LU<br />so it sits upside down still with PB blaster soaking it still. maybe it will come out this summer! Well, I got the 60 for a great price with controls & prop (200 bucks)the guy I got it from said it was to much motor for what he needed. just had to pick it up. Now just mount it and hopefully enjoy the summer.
