mounting Q for those who installed a universal bimini

I bought the one from overtons , put it together with "hammer rivets" and its a lil too wide, but i can "make it" fit to the top of the gunnals, is that ok, or Where / how should it be mounted? this is a 5.5 ft long binimi going on a searay 175

If what you are saying is make it fit by flexing the posts in or out a little to get it to the width of the mounting points, that is fine and actually a good thing as it provides more sideways rigidity to the top. I have to push in the bottom of mine a good 6 inches or so to mount it and it works just fine.
