Mounting Transducer in hull?

Hi Guys! I just got my first REAL boat, a 2002 nitro 700 LX DC. It still has the original low end hummingbird transducer epoxy'd into the bilge area. I want to replace it with my new hummingbird 565 but I have a question. I know I can remove the old one, but I am unsure of what epoxy to use to mount the new one. I was told that I can use the one that came with it which was made to be mounted on the tolling motor or the transom. However I am not a fan of drilling into my transom at all.

you can use most 2 part epoxies, but sure that the location of the transducer is a good one. On a boat that small in-hulls are sometimes hard to find a good spot that works at high speeds. Put the transducer in a bag with water in the same spot as the old one was located. Then try the location at diffrent speeds ( this will probally take two people to be safe) to make sure it will work. make sure you prep the testing area. Transom mt would be best though. good luck

Fast cure epoxies can set up before all the air bubbles escape - better to use a 2-hour epoxy. I haven't tried this, but I have heard that polyester resin is good for this application as it usually cures with no trapped air.

Look at how many holes are in the transom already - couple small screws sealed with 3m 5200 will be your least vulnerable spot. Don't blame you for not wanting to drill the transom though. But note that you won't get a water temp reading from inside the hull.
