As some of you know, I work for Best Buy. Previously to that I worked at Target 3rd shift and moved to Best By 2 years ago.
I started as a part-time warehouse employee. I was maybe getting 15 hrs a week.
I was then promoted to Full-time, and subsequently promoted to what Best Buy calls a Senior position. I think I had a thread somewhere on here about that promotion. Basicall the store has 4 Managers that run the show, and a group of 4 or 5 Supervisors under them, and after that Each Supervisor has 1 or 2 Seniors to help them. So a Senior is part of the Leadership ladder......to a degree.
It just so happens that the Inventory/Loss Prevention Supervisor role opened up. In terms of Supervisors go, this is one of the top 2 spots to be in. This job has the most people working under it, and carries more responsibility than the others. The person who had this spot is now a Manager, and many before her have done the same.
The other day the GM pulled me into the office to ask if I was applying for it. I told him I was, and he told me that I had been working hard and certainly deserved the position. He then said that if I have any aspirations at becoming a manager, I was certainly on the right track. He then informed me that unless something catastrophic were to happen the job would be mine.
Well today is the day. I now officially have the job, and get to sit down with him and discuss my plans and pay. Its looking like a $4/hr raise.....along with added responsibily and a HUGE step in the direction of being salary Management. I now get to be completely in charge of the Inventory and Logistics processes....
I was studying architecture, but I was not happy with the school or the people in it. It was cut-throat, and there was a great deal of backstabbing in an evironment meant to foster ideas. The last year or so I have been taking economics related coarses and will now be switching my degree to Business Marketing and double major with the Art History and Critiscm major I currently have.
