Moving boat off old roller trailer to new bunk trailer.

Hi i had made a post pretty similar to this last year. I did a search and read alot about it now its time to actually move it so id like a few oppinions on it.<br />I have to move a 19' boat non equiped no engine or anything off a very old roller trailer onto a new bunk trailer.<br />Boat weighs aprox 1200-1500 lbs dry. its all new stringers deck foam etc so should be dry <br />I plan to take the winch etc off old trailer and easing it onto the other new trailer.<br />Any ideas to make this easier im a bit worried the bunks will make this very difficult.<br />Thanks<br />Garrett

Keep it simple and do as Art said.In the water.If you cant then you will have to jack up and block the boat.

If a Wet Launch Isn't Possible.......<br /><br />Your talking a Pretty Light Load,....... Relatively speaking.......<br /><br />I would Unload the boat onto the lawn or driveway,.... As Explained here Repeatedly ,....Whichever Method You'd prefer.....<br /><br />Reloading it won't be bad,....... Just wheel the New wagon over to the Bow,+ Start cranking the Winch,.........<br />Allowing the Tounge of the wagon to Rise,.. Will ease the transistion onto the Bunks.........<br />If you have a Stout Tree available,.... Throw a Come-along in it to give alittle Up pressure,...thou I doubt you'll really Need it........

Thanks for the fast replies.<br />No it cant be done in the water the trailer is in very bad shape at axels.<br />So just unload onto lawn and then push/winch it onto bunks?<br />The bunks are sorta high off the ground... its a karavan classic 06 <br />If thats not an issue ill try it out friday im just a bit concerned it wont get back off the ground.<br />No trees are readily availible either.<br />Thanks again <br />Bondo ill have pics tommorrow if it doesnt rain again <br />Garrett

1. Chock the wheels <br />2. remove the winch & bow stop, supporting the bow with scrap lumber if necessary.<br />3. lower the tongue to the ground - take off the wheel jack if you have to<br />4. back the new trailer up as far under the bow as you can - with the back end of the new trailer over the tongue of the old one<br />5. wet the bunks, or better, spray 'em with wd40<br />6. winch the boat onto the new trailer.<br /><br />Here's an idea for lowering the old trailer, if it's too tall for the new one - best do this while it's hitched, I think:<br />1. get two automobile jacks, the scissor kind that can be lowered to just a few inches off the ground<br />2. put one jack under each axle & take off the wheels<br />3. lower 'em all the way down<br />4. maybe add some support under the frame or otherwise stabilize the trailer so it won't move during the boat transfer<br /><br />I've never tried it before - just made it up on the spot - good luck!

If you have a few buddies that will come help, I think bondo's idea would be fairly easy. If not, then jtexes' idea is what I had pictured in my mind. If you go with jtexas idea, then I would definatley spray the bunks with some wd40 or silicone spray.

Do as jtexas describes, has been done before and works.<br />Make sure new trailer is secured to tow vehicle, and old trailer is chocked well.

why not do as jtexas said, but remove the complete tougue so you can get new trailer further back under boat.

This is how I did it. Same as other have suggested (except I actually took a picture ). I got this suggestion from the folks here on Iboats when I asked how to do it.<br /><br />I took the winch post off the old trailer, backed the new trailer as far over the old as possable. I used a 2x4 to nudge the bow up onto the keel roller of the new trailer. The winch from the new trailer is used to winch the boat from old to new. the can of WD40 was used to make the bunks slippery. My wife cranked the winch, and I pushed from the rear and it slid right on over. In the beginning, the new trailer gets pulled under the boat until it hits the old trailer frame, then the boat starts moving onto the new trailer. It looks a lot scarier than it really is. I was afraid that ther would be a point where the boat could fall over, but it didn't, not even close.<br /><br />

Other thing, garrett, wet down the pads as best you can (little soap too wouldn't hurt) to assist in the boat sliding.<br /><br />Mark
