Moving Trolling Battery to back of boat

Moving trolling motor battery to back of boat to help with weight distribution. What gauge wire is recommended for this? 12 volt 50 pound thrust,boat length 17 feet.<br /><br />Thanks,

If it drew 50 Amps, it would call for a #6 wire...I don't know exactly how much that motor draws, but #4 would be a real safe bet...For comparison, a new Minnkota Endura 50# thrust motor draws 42 Amps. So that would be close...

I think boats (that have a front connector and rear battery from the factory) used to be wired with #6. But with the newer trolling motors putting out 60+ # of thrust, that is light. So I guess I'd go with the #4 also.<br /><br />Mark
