Has anyone had any experience with these units? They permit flushing the powerhead with city water using a hose connection while the engine is shut down. I am considering installation of one of these kits after I get my 1990 Evinrude 120 looper powerhead rebuilt. Powerhead rebuild required as a result, in part, of saltwater corrosion problems. :(

Re: MST Guardian Engine Flush

From my experience with them, they don't flush the entire cooling system properly. I've seen them installed several ways and in one instance connected directly to the exhaust bypassing the engine. What some folks don't understand is, unless an engine is brought up to operating temp, the thermosats don't open and the water doesn't circulate completely. On the sterndrive kits, if you attempt to flush the engine without it running while in the water, you stand a chance of water backing up the exhaust and flooding the engine.

Capt Ken,<br />In the brochure I received from the manufacturer, the water is shown ported directly into the cylinder heads. I am considering this for an outboard rather than an I/O. I would also agree that if not properly installed, the unit might not be effective. The boat is docked in salt water all season and I would like to flush the motor periodically to prevent buildup of corrosion products. Has anyone else tried these units?
