Muffs...

I ran my boat with the muffs on and the next time i started it ... it was flodded with water in the oil... I was reading online that if you run muffs with the water on full blast you can flood the engine... is this true? this is on a 350... wiht a 260 out drive

The funny thing is I used to run my motors on muffs and turn the water on full blast. I think it was full blast????

I never had problems. I did however read recently as Im back in boats nw afte rnot havign one for 10 years that you should NOT run at full blast because the pump wont pick up the water correctly. It just needs a constant stream of water not a high pressure stream of water.

SO its possible you flooded something, Im relaly not sure but you defiently dont need the hose on full next time around!

Water must have really been flowing up in your engine or exhaust in order for it to get in the pistons if Im understanding you right.

You should always run the hose has high flow as it will go. The pump will only pick up what it can, and the rest will squirt out the sides of the muffs. Don't waste one second worrying about too much water from the muffs, we worry about not enough, never about too much. You have a different problem . . .

Make sure you are not running in a bow down attitude on the trailer. Jack the trailer up such that it is slightly bow up or equivelent to its in water attitude.

It will NOT fill the crankcase with water.
Running on full blast usually won't do anything, but it may cause some water to get into the cylinders if the engine is not running and the bow of the boat is very low.
For water to get directly into the crankcase while running, it will take a cracked block. Did it freeze with water in the block?

the lowest it has got here in jacksonville is in the 40's this season.... the block it not frozen or cracked... I am pulling the heads and intake manifold to see if it is bad but other wise this is a mystery... Water was in veeyr cylinder though

It then passes into, and through, the combustion chambers, and down to the oil pan. This scenario can be caused by simply over-cranking a hard starting engine (with the raw water through-hull open) or from an internal failure of the water lift muffler."

That might be true if you have a big enough boat to HAVE a raw water through-hull or a water lift muffler! My guess would be that most people on these boards have neither one.
