Multiple Transducers (two side by side)

Hello,

I have a question about mounting two transducers for two separate units. I've tried searching the forum but have not found much if anything on my question.

Basically, I have a 21 ft SeaPro. I already have a Lowrance LMS 350A on it. The sounder works great and I don't plan on removing it. I did upgrade to a Lowrance Elite 5 DSI with Gold Mapping Chart for better GPS and plotter capability and the new DSI was interesting. My question is, can I mount the DSI's transducer beside the existing transducer for the LMS 350A? Only thing I found so far on the subject of multiple transducers is one statement that if the cones ovelap, there will be some interference. Any input on this would be great. If there is no other options, then I could just use one at a time, but if there is no issue with mounting together, then that would be a bonus.

If this question has already been asked, please bump the thread so I can read it as searching has come up with negative results.

Thanks,
Kyle

I have three transducers on my boat, but only use one at a time. If they pick up each others singles, they will not work right. If your only having two, I would mount them, One on port side and the other on the starboard side.

I use two of the same type/brand/part number simultaneously and have no problems. One is mounted in the stern of the boat and the other is on the TM.

If both are running the same freq (200khz) and their cones overlap, and they use amplitude modulation then it's conceivable that one could pick up the others signal and you would experience "interference".

But, it all depends upon the processing within the unit as to whether or not another unit could actually cause interference even though their radiation/reception cones overlap. Just don't know what's in them today.....back when you had the neon flasher, yes you had interference.

Re: Multiple Transducers (two side by side)

UPDATE: Added the DSI skimming transducer next to the other one about 10 inches apart. Both work excellent and we spot on marking fish at 40 feet. Nailed the Black Bass out of Charleston Harbor on Caspers Reef. FYI...never seen anything like it, those Blacks were hitting bare hooks, sometimes three fish at a time. Most were in the 3 to 5 pound range that we kept and threw back a bunch.

DSI operates at 455/800 kHz . You will have no problems with cross talk with a 200kHz unit

Yep, if the frequencies are different, you are good to go!

That should tell you how poor the sensitivity is with these new units. ;) It's cheaper to use a filters than to build a good clean output to begin with.
