Your 84 150 hp should also have a sensor on the oil pump drive shaft to sense rotation of the shaft and if the drive gear starts to fail when when you throttle up the drive can slip and the sensor is telling you the pump is not turning, best get it checked before you damage the power head,

I had a similar problem. The alarm eventually started going off at idle. I have yet to resolve it, but I have verified that the oil injection IS working. I found that if I wiggle the wires going from the Oil Injection Warning module to the pump shaft sensor while it is idling, the alarm will sound. There is a short it it somewhere that I have yet to track down.

The main thing is to make SURE it is getting oil so you don't destroy your power head. If it is NOT getting oil, then do NOT run it and get it fixed. In my case, I could see blue smoke at idle, so I mixed my tank at 100:1 ratio for some insurance and took the boat out and ran it for about 1 minute at just below wide open throttle. I then stopped, pulled the motor cover and verified that transparent oil line coming OUT of the oil pump was full of oil. It was. This (as I am told) means that it IS getting oil. I frequently check that line out of paranoia and find that it stays full.

I am trying to decide if I should just bypass the whole thing with one of the bypass kits and mix 50:1 in the tank. I have to admit that it might ease my mind and it is cheaper than fix the system if replacement of the module or pump drive gear are required.

Anyone know of a good source for the bypass kit?

I do know that when you first turn the key to on, it should beep. I forget how many times, but three sounds about right. I am wondering if you do not have a bad warning module... I have NO WAY of knowing that, but I am suspicious. Maybe someone on here knows of a test procedure for it (if there is one).
