I used my boat on a fishing trip for the first time about a week ago since changing the oil and winterizing last fall. We fished in Northern Manitoba on a lake that was still with some ice out in the middle. We fished for 4 days with extensive period of trolling (up to 7 hours each day) and didn't open up the boat for any period of time. After a long trip on some extreemly dusty roads I cleaned up the boat and checked the oil level. To my surprise the oil was murky which made me feel a bit uneasy. The boat ran perfect on the trip but I warmed up the engine in the yard with the muffs on and then drained the oil. Definately contamination as the oil smells of gas but the cloudyness tends for me to think of water. Last bit to drain from the engine definately was more whitish and cloudy than the rest.

Can running for extended periods in ice cold water at idle speeds allow fuel to enter the oil and/or cause condensation? Might I be looking at a head gasket failure?

My plan is first to replace the oil and filter after allowing the oil to drain all night indoors. I thought to replace the oil tomorrow and run it with the muffs and check the oil after. It might be worth a good run out on a local waterway. Any thoughts, comments insights, or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm using 10w40 oil as per the manufacturer and have had no problem with the oil in past years of use.

Manitoba1
