Re: Must I drill holes in trasnsom of aluninum boat to install depth finder

Epoxy didn't hold Starboard to my gelcoat, neither did 5200, I'll try the Marine Tex next time. Oh, and my WalMart cutting board got powdery/brittle after a few months in the sun...

YMMV

Plastics, especially Starboard and the other marine type boards (cutting boards) are all a polyethylene material which has the lowest surface energy of any of the thermoplastics. In fact, if you will think about it, plastic is a petroleum product derivative. You'll notice that Starboard and other marine boards have a greasy feel. That's exactly what you feel...oil. It is very difficult to find adhesives compatible with the poly materials or most any plastics for that matter. Its a science to be able to properly match adhesives and plastics so that they are structurally compatible and those adhesives likely will not be off-the-shelf products.

I bought a new sea ark and now intend to install a garmin depth finder. It calls for drilling into the transom to mount the transducer braket. anything avialable to avoid those holes? I can imagine some type of stand off piece that may be epoxied or something. Any ideas?
