i have had one purebreed dobermin and he was a good dog but he was very scittish and didn't trust anyone that didn't live in the house but ever since i have had a lab dobermin mix and it is without a doubt the best dog i ever had now we got a new addition about a year ago she was a pregnant basset hound and who knows what else but kept 2 out of 11 puppies from her and they have been great pups but i could do without the howling of the mother

Our local pound now requires all dogs and cats to be micro chipped before they can leave at your expense. I have had pure breds, taken in stray dogs that just show up, and saved a few from the pound. It is now cheaper to get a dog pure bred or unwanted mutt from outside of the pound.

The first dog my wife and I had we got on impulse. It looked like a black lab and the lady at the pound said it would get to be about 65lbs. Well that lab was a lab/newfy mix and grew to about 120lbs. It was a great dog, great temperment, great with small kids, etc. It was just too big for our house. After three years we made the difficult decision to give her to another family that had land and another dog to play with.

After that, and the times I had to pick up 30 lbs of poop, I had no interest in another dog. When my wife and kids came begging me to get another I finally relented and gave her my requirements.

1) Small
2) small poop
3) Not barky
4) not high energy
5) good with kids

Well they set off on a search for the perfect dog and they came up with the pug. Five years later, I love pugs. they are perfect for me and our lifestyle. Even though ours won't give me the time of day (dog prefers women) I think shes just great. I love their temperment and personalities as the others we have encountered all do pretty much the same thing. Eat and find a good place in the sun to sleep.

In this case the pure bred matched its noted characteristics perfectly. We could not have found that match at the pound. Although we did try.

1 of mine came from the pound, and the other 3 were found somewhere, by somebody, and they were looking for a good home for them. We apparently qualify as a good home for them

I can see only one reason to get a purebred, and that is if it is gonna be in competitions, but even so, that isn't what a dog is supposed to do in its life, so really, there is no need for breeders.

Glad you are happy with your dogs.

Competitions such as police and war work? Guard dogs for human property and protection? Hunting? Herding?

I only have one requirement for my dogs.They have to be at least one half Australian border collie.That will make up for whatever else was mixed in.

I started fighting the establishment when I was in grade school. I would be late to class because I was hideing under cars with the stray dogs to save them from the dog catcher. Teacher had to belive me when I came in covered with grease and smelling like a stray dog.....ANIMAL
