i agree with chris, the proper safety guage would be water pressure. i was told once this ...:
"water pressure tells you what GONNA happen, and a temp guage tells you what ALREADY has happened."

Re: My 115 inline now running, what now??

To be honest the only reason I want to run a temp gauge is because there is one on the dash and if i remove it it will leave a nice big rectangular hole

Like you guys suggest, i will run a water pressure gauge as well, for the prevention factor and for the sheer extra gauge on the dash.

When removing the powerhead do I really need to take off all the things you mention. I can understand removing the cowel and electrics, ill remove the starter just cause its easy, the carbs i'll take off cause im going to rebuild them but do I need to remove them or is it just because it will make the powerhead lighter?

Another problem I have is that my boat is not in a garage and I have no lifting equipment what so ever, the only way this powerhead will be removed is by 2-3 men wrestling it off. Should i do it or will it be too much hastle?

All you need remove are the cowls (top and side), the electrics connector from the bottom cowl, the fuel line, and control cables and the nut that secures the shift lever to the slide bracket on the port side of the engine (low down). Then 4 screws that hold the small lower cowl to the bottom cowl, and 6 nuts (on the ends of studs) that hold the engine to the driveshaft housing. Don't take the dissy off. They're a nuisance to get off and a pain to setup again.

Chris.........

Will get to takin that powerhead off as soon as all my parts arrive.

Ive been trying to find this Seafoam Deep Creep stuff in the uk and cant find it anywhere. I dont want to use the merc powertune cause it just doesn't get the same write ups as the seafoam. Can any of you guys get me some and ship it over, I could make a paypal payment or something and it would end my search.

Stan........

now stan, you KNOW this would violate all kinds of international laws and treaties. the queen would have my arse if i did this :)

whats wrong with your head cover. is it the actuall cover, or just a bad gasket. take the cover off and give it a good cleaning. sand it with some nice paper and lay it on a pane of glass or something you know, that reads K N O W, is flat. i bet its just the gasket

stan the wire for the tach should be attached at the rectifier, on either of the two yellow wires from the stator. this is how they all are.

mine works great like this.

most of the time is a grey wire, maybe even a brown wire.

if all else fails, youll hafta run a new wire from rectifier to tach.

mike

Re: My 115 inline now running, what now??

Thanks for the wire codes email Chris, you gave me that before but i couldn't find it again.

That will go in my little "marine folder" on my desktop.

So should i completely disconnect the brown wire(tach) from the switch box, leave that terminal empty and put it on the rectifier.

On my engine the tach wire is brown but the tach wire on my "new" controller is grey.

Stan..........

Yes.

Just to let you know, I'm heading up to Vietnam for a few weeks on Monday (the horrible 'W' word). I won't have an electronic communication either.

Chris......

no...re send please

stan, as for the tach wireing goes....it really doesnt matter what color wire you are using, just check with your digi multimeter that the two ends have continuity( you DO have one, dont you!?)

on mine, yes its the grey wire, but i dont have the control box with the "plug" for the tach,so i am using the from the motor straight to my tach.

by the way, after all ive been through getting my inline 6 running the way is, ima sellin' the old girl. if you wanna see a video of my motor running( i thinks its cool) check the ebay listing...2488315251

or here is a direct link
http://www.zippyvideos.com/6281090017724.html

JB yelled at me last time i posted this, but i just wanna be able to show my buds my motor and all the hard work ive put into it!( we cant solicit on the forums) so please, if you buy my motor, dont do it through iboats :)

I sent that mail again Mike, your engine is sweet my friend, that looks like a really good example of the 1150. Why are you selling it, its a beauty and you know that no one will care for her the way you do... :'-(
