Okay supersport dudes. Jas has challenged you all to come up with better ideas than he has... you heard him. Just read the quote with a 13 year old girl inflection on the word "sure".

I am sure the SuperSport guys can give ya great direction on interior happenings:rolleyes:

No kidding on the great ideas. I think I have read through all of the SS forums and many of the other restores in the other models. I always come away feeling dumb in comparison to most/all of you people. The stuff you are all able to do with your hands, how you conceptualize space and trouble shoot is amazing. Not trying to kiss up but as I get deeper into this project I continue to have a deeper sense of respect, honor and thankfulness that you where all created the way you were.

Re: My 16 Foot Super Sport

the beauty of a restore is a clean canvass for you to be an artist

if fishing is the main use, consider a bow modification
if pleasure/skiing is the main use, consider the bow as seating

My interior tries to capture both, from casting, trolling, and drifting, to
seat arrangement to have a balanced and safe load for water skiing and
adding more storage.

I have 4 lock'n'pin seat bases, two on the casting platforms, and two in the rear cockpit.
These are meant to be used at 5mph or less.

Underway, I have the two front seats with compliance locking hardware, and additional
passengers can be 2 in the bow, and/or 2 on the rear platform with removeable jumps.

My max comfort is 6 passengers, or 5 with a skier.

Re: My 16 Foot Super Sport

A second coat of thinned down Regal Red was put on the boat this morning. This is an interesting method of painting. Here are some pictures of the job. I will say, given the surface I am going over, that is paint is going on very smoothly. I had some issues with runs yesterday morning but I think they are the result of two things. I was in a hurry to get in the office so did not go over the boat as much as I should and the garage was cold. I had a thought last night about how to improve the paint drying without runs.

The thinned down paint should and dry more quickly that thick rustoleum and that is the magic. The problem is that if the garage is not warm enough for it to dry quickly it tends to run. So I put the heater under the boat last night and let the aluminum get warm. The paint dried much faster today. It was actually drying 10 min. after I put it on to the point that I had to be careful not to over roll as the paint got pulled up in spots. I can heat the boat more effectively than the entire garage and, hopefully, avoid sanding out drips.

I think you can see the bleeding through of the primer yet after two coats but it is a few shades darker than the first coat. Next up is sanding with 600 grit. Maybe tonight depending on dry time.

When I was painting mine with Easypoxy, I also had to watch like a hawk for runs.

I need you hawk eye. Found one run and a lap mark so far. Nuts. I think it has much to do with my lousy lighting in the garage. I am going to try better lighting and see if that helps.

what do you have for lighting?

Get a couple Lithonia 2 lamp T8 fixtures, about $15 each @ Ace Hardware right now..Get tubes (sold seperately) with a 5,000 Kelvin rating.
Lamps description should be F32T8/750

Re: My 16 Foot Super Sport

oh nice tip bud. I will check that out. Right now is seems like I am using candles. I rigged a light up tonight and it is helping but I have dark spots. Our house was wired in the 50s and no one thought to upgrade over the last 50+ years. We are not running knob and tube but close. That means a light or two in the garage with the shop vac running with the radio on could trip a circuit.

lol..

My garage has a SINGLE standard E26 based screw socket in the middle of it. I hooked up a fixture and bought a plug socket to screw into that single socket. Works well, had 100% better light in 15 minutes.

Coat number 6 with Regal Red Rustoleum. It is starting to come together well I think. Now I wait and sand with 800 grit then two more coats of red. This is pretty much the same angle and spot of the close up as before just as a point of reference.

Thanks Rheagler

I have a question for you folks. You can see in the picture below were all the tubes and wiring goes from boat to motor through that grommet type thing (sorry don't know the name of it). I wonder if there is a different option that would protect those wires a bit better that the plastic grommet thingy. There are places on wires that have worn through the first layer of insulation but not to the bare wires yet. I imagine the wear is from vibration. Can I use the same type of boot that the steering goes through or will the rubber not stretch enough to get that volume of stuff through?

Perfectly! Is that just a "boot" or a different type of boot? Place to purchase? Is that out the side or straight out the back of splashwell?

Re: My 16 Foot Super Sport

What do you folks think of a 600 gph bilge? This is what I have in mind. I don't like putting it into the hull so can I put it on a backer piece and 5200/4200 the backer to the bottom? Sound okay?

Hey Otte. How about the Automatic 600 GPH. It's just about $10 more but it's a set it and forget kinda thing. And you can wire it for auto or manual operation. My Nassau had no factory pump and I put in a 500 GPH so I had something and plan on adding an automatic pump as well.

On the backer for mounting, since a bilge usually ends up with water in it I mounted the pump on an AL angle to the knee brace. I did put an AL strap from the brace to the outside edge of the angle to minimize vibration. No rot worries and I can take the whole assembly out without chipping at 5200.

Just some thoughts, buddy.
