Re: My 16 Foot Super Sport

Great thoughts

Hey Otte. How about the Automatic 600 GPH. It's just about $10 more but it's a set it and forget kinda thing. And you can wire it for auto or manual operation. My Nassau had no factory pump and I put in a 500 GPH so I had something and plan on adding an automatic pump as well.

On the backer for mounting, since a bilge usually ends up with water in it I mounted the pump on an AL angle to the knee brace. I did put an AL strap from the brace to the outside edge of the angle to minimize vibration. No rot worries and I can take the whole assembly out without chipping at 5200.

Just some thoughts, buddy.

You got the name "CheapboatKev" honestly and with effort but I like it. You should send your material into Larry the Cable Guy. Just sayin'.

Or zip tie it to a brick..
Ahem.

The original bilge pump on mine worked.

I added a 2nd one(only trips if ON, and senses water)

In the rear of the cockpit, I added the circular access lid. Just under it and off center, is the 2nd bilge pump,
and it was attached to the decking with SS nuts and bolts using Aluminum L, if that makes sense to you.

It makes sense but it sounds like it is upside down but I think that is my brain. Is there a picture of that there contraption on the well read blog of yours? I am off to put on the 8th and final coat of red. Picture tonight when done.

Re: My 16 Foot Super Sport

My list
1. Prime and Paint consoles and bow piece white.
2. Make new dash pieces, bunks and P.I.T.A. board from bow from cedar sanded and sealed with marine sealant.
3. Flip the boat back over and start to cut and fit the deck.
4. Seal the deck and bow plywood with epoxy.
5. Sand and prime the gunwale and bow then paint with white rusto following the 6-8 coats thinned down with 600, 800, 1000 grit between each two coats method.
6. Put floor in and skin with Nautolex storm grey vinyl. I got 6'x18' from ebay at $195 including shipping. That was a kick to the pills but a less expensive option than I thought.

Here she is without a top and skirt.;) Like my wife... I think she looks pretty good this way. Some touch ups needed (okay I stopped talking about my wife now) as the frog tape let some red in on the white but I expected that so no biggie.

The red and white looks good, Otte. Much better without the masking. Flip her over, I'm getting a kink in my neck from twisting to see what she looks like right side up. LOL

It's good to see you posted the boat pictures.

Paint looks nice. You might try a q-tip and some thinner on the bleeds, should get most of it off and require less touch up.

Re: My 16 Foot Super Sport

I love you guys. Great idea and will put my steady handed 13 year old artist daughter on the task of q-tip and thinner. Worth a try. Besides that is what kids are for right?

the detachable base of the pump should have 2 attachment holes on a flange

get a stick of epoxy putty, about 3 bucks at HD, WaterWeld

get some aluminum angle and SS nuts, bolts, and lock washers

measure the height from base of pump to underneath decking

unclip pump base, attach hardware, test fit dry

if good, make a putty base, affix pump in location

drill holes from underneath where top of hardware gets attached

complete attaching to decking

make hose connection to pump before clipping in place

clip in place

Thanks Starman - love the diagram and that helped me a ton.

Q-tip method worked pretty good and got some spots off entirely and got others flattened down enough for Brenna (my daughter) to get get some paint on and cover up the rest.

Hey Otte, Exploiting children? Wait until you need some small hands to hold something and they can't be found. LOL That's a good (Q)tip from 64osby.

Starman, Can you get to the pump to clear debris? Or am I missing something as far as location?
