Re: My 1968 Glastron GT160 rebuild......

Welp...Pretty good day......finally figured out the tilt/trim issue and started getting itchy for some 2 stroke exhaust smell.......

Pretty sure that dog will hunt!!!! Initial observations.....I think it may be idling a bit high, but stable, and steady, nice response off the throttle. There seemed to be a "clicking" in reverse until throtle up. (dont know if thats how they are or not....it was unexpected is all) I defiantly will be replacing the impeller, the "pee stream" was not as forceful as I would have expected.....

I will post a video if I can get it off of my stinking phone......

Let me know if this link doesnt work...

there is nothing like the sound and smell of a tower of power......yum! Sounds like you have solid girl there. I'm not sure on the clicking, mine has never done that but honestly I haven't had it in reverse on the stand.

That'll certainly put some giddy up in a GT160 B)

Sounds great! I like the camera guy backing up everytime you blipped the throttle ;)

Corjen, not sure what kind of "clicking" you are hearing. I have a 1989 Mercury 150HP BlackMax, and it ran great. Boat was bought used and near the end of my first season of use, I was noticing a slight "clicking." As an old auto mechanic, I wouldn't have called it a tapping as in lifter, (I know there are no lifters in these engines) It was noticeable when idling out of "No Wake Areas" etc., and seemed to stop, or at least I couldn't hear it, on power up. However, I was out running it getting ready to put it on the trailer and bring her home, when it locked up. Thank goodness was too far from the marina, ran trolling motor for a little while, then tried the 150 again, it cranked, ran for a little while and locked up again. Long story short...burnt number 3 piston...which locked it up. Have since rebuilt the engine and had it out late last summer. It was suggested to me by a few forum members up in the engine section that it was ignition. Not sure what the problem was, but everything has checked out. I will be tearing into the boat shortly, actually should be starting a thread in a couple days, to rebuild deck, stringers etc., LOL, if it ain't one thing it is another. Just a little info, hope it helps.

Re: My 1968 Glastron GT160 rebuild......

I've messed with the control box cables for a TOP lately, and it had a very slight click when cranking and when running in idle. A little prop spinning in neutral is normal, but mine was much too fast. All
I had to do was adjust the shifting cable ever so slightly, and now the prop doesn't budge in neutral and the clicking is gone. Hopefully that helps!

Another quick tip for those inlines for when you splash is when shifting, make sure to NOT ease it into gear. Shift quickly until you hear it firmly thunk into gear.

Enjoying reading your progress!

Made a little progress today......hope it to be able to install the transom next weekend and at least one of the stringers!!!

Had to do a bit of trimming on the transom ( was about 1/4 in too tall), trimed and re-CSM's the edges. Also cut out the cup for the bilge drain

This is the floor for the bow, the fuel tank sits on this.....

Thats enough for today, my back said your are done!!!! I'll be back at it tomorrow. Have a good night all!!!

Had an epiphany today....Wog gave me fantastic instruction on wrapping corners with CSM, using the brush dabbing method, I tried friscoboaters method on large flat surfaces using a 4 inch flat/smooth nap roller........not one air bubble!!

WOG, you are absolutely right!! Here is what I am using.....from home depot, not too expensive, think it was like 8 bucks for the the kit (roller and pan) the replacement pads are like 4.50 a pack.
