Hello to all! I am getting ready to purchase a boat with a VP 5.7 GIC 300 P with a DPS A drive. My 1st VP. The boat is a 2011 Regal 2300 that weighs approx 4300 full of fuel. The boat I just sold is a 08 Regal 2200 with a Merc mag 350 / 300hp and a bravo 3 drive.I drove the new boat a few times at the end of last summer and performance wise both boats have good hole shots and close top speeds with the VP a little more torque feeling going from cruse to WOT. Both are GM powered and pretty much the same. My question, is the VP as the same to maintain as the Merc? I am a maintenance minded person I pull the drive off annually checking gimbal bearing , alignment, bellows, u joints, etc, etc,and service and winterize my self. I do go a little overboard when it comes to the is area, but I learned a long time ago that a its more fun going fast on the water then working on it at the ramp!

I'm still pretty new to all this myself but as far as I know, the maintenance for both VP and Mercruiser should be the same. Some things might be different but I can imagine most of it it's the same.

Very similar maintenance. Since your drive is going to be 5 years old this year, I suggest changing the u-joint bellows. If you don't know how old the impeller is, change it too.

Yeah I plan a full service by pulling the drive to check the gimbal bearing, change the bellows, pull crank pully and inspect pump bearing and seal, replace o ring and impeller, oil, fuel filter, engine oil, and so on. Thought about gimbal grease tube repair if it applies to this drive.
