my 77 15hp johnson wont come out of forward and my ball is not holding pressure

Took the boat out last week it worked flawless tried it this morning and the ball wouldnt hold pressure and my boat wouldnt come out of forward the lever move from forward neutral and reverse but wont engage out of forward what is the problem?

You obviously have two completely seperate issues. On the 1st one. Are you saying the bulb never gets hard or it gets hard and then loses it's hardness. The later is normal, the other is not. Questions. Does the motor start. Does it later die on you. Does gas overflow out of the carburetor?

As for the second issue. Have you had the lower unit dropped recently or did you perhaps unscrew the little phillips head screw in the lower unit?

THE SHIFTER just sticks occasionaly when Im trying to go out of neutral but if I take my hand and spin the prop I can put it into gear
