my alighnment bar will only go part way into coupler HELP?????

This is a compeate transom rebild I am at the point with all new bellows,mounts, gimball bearing. the whole deal.
my alment tool will only go in like a inch, have tried banging it up and doun to alighn the new gimball bearing..
and with other misc pipes seem to have it all centered preaty good but darn tool only wants to go into coupler like an inch... does any one have AN idea whats going on here.. I am doing the grease thing and splines show up on tool fairly even but only about 3/4 doun... this thing should go all the way in couper????

Ive been all over that thread
I guess I just need to keep mesing with it tell the bar bottums out

Most likely you'll need to raise the front of the engine to get the bar to go all the way in.

What "mounts" did you change?

Might also want to clean the coupler out. A lot of dried, baked on, hard grease will keep the bar from going all the way in too.

ive been cleaning all day at the bushing and grinding a little with a file now the bar will go in!!! yeah

What was there a burr on the bushing? I hope you used extreme care grinding it that area.

yeah burrs and dried grease this guy has not beeen in service for 21 years...
I did use caution cleaned up preaty good- I will replace bushing and some other parts in the drive this winter but for now this will atleast allow me to get boat put back together and on the water a little to see if she floats?!?!
