With the death of my assistant, things have been super busy for me. Last Monday, my boss gave me a surprise. At 8am, in walks my apprentice that had taken a job with a local HVAC company. My boss was able to offer him some more money and benefits. I like the idea having him as my past assistant didn't do any equipment troubleshooting, but would change out parts when asked. With my helper now, I can send him on a job expecting him to get it done right. However, several things I have had to go back and find out what he had done wrong. For a 19 year old, he does well but still has a lot to learn. (Like you don't connect a wire from L2 to a terminal block that is supplied by L3) :D That took me awhile to find out why it kept blowing fuses.

Wouldn't you know, the first day I let him take my service van to go pick up some breakers that I had ordered. He walks into the shop with his head down and asked me to go look at the van. I walk out into the warehouse and see that from the front door to the rear wheel had been smashed in. When he was turning into the electric distributor, he side swiped a steel pole filled with concrete. Said he didn't swing out far enough. Uh no doubt!

I have driven the company vehicles since 98 and have yet to put a scratch on one. Now everyone teases me about it thinking I did it. Go figure? Think I will talk them into getting me a new van and hand this one down to the apprentice :D

Re: My Apprentice is Back!

Glad to hear of this. I remember how hard his death was for you. I hope you're doing well coming through it.

Aside from being something of an autobody-artist, I hope this guy helps ease up your workload.

I'm wondering how many others, apart from me, got "apprentice" and "assistant" confused and at least briefly thought your assistant came back to life?

Glad you've got some help S.S.

Allow me to clarify myself. When my now assistant worked for me the last time, he was an apprentice since he was in HVAC trade school. He only helped in the preventive maintenance of our units and aided in troubleshooting and repair. This was part of the school program that he was enrolled in.

He now has taken the place of my assistant which did many aspects of the maintenance field.
