LazyCruiser, what's the total weight of that boat on the trailer with gear (roughly)? I'd guess in the ~6500 lbs range?

Thanks US Soldier !!

The boat weighs 4625 empty, trailer is not much under 1000 lbs.
I'm really not sure how much gear and gas/water add up to, maybe another 700 lbs?
I am guessing

Re: My Bayliner Classic Cruiser 2452

Hey Bruce 58, I know she has trim tabs, these boats come stock with them. The trouble is that even with trim tabs they dont like to get on step without a whole lot of nose in the air. I have owned my 2452 for 6 years and as a mechanic and an ex racer I am constantly tinkering with things to improve its performance. The hydro foil enhances the low to mid range performance and takes about 2 mph off top speed. You can achive the same effect by adding about 250 lb of weight to the bow but the performance suffers. Belive me I have done timed runs, checked time to plane and fuel milage both with and without the hydrofoil. They dont work for all boats, but for this boat and this hydrofoil it is a good combination.

Good info there and it is one way to "skin the cat". I can't disagree with the need for more lift and the hydrofoil is one way to get it.

However it appears that Bayliner supplied the boat with 12" x 9" Trim tabs as stock. We recommend that size for up to about a 19 foot boat. A very effective way to improve the lift would be to replace the 12" x 9" Trim Tabs with 12" x 12" ones. It is a really easy job, with no new holes needed. They pretty much slide in place and have 3" more surface area aft of where the actuator attaches.

This would put the Tabs in the correct size range for the boat and there would be no drag when not in use.

I know, I'm biased :)

To Superbenk you are pretty close there, just weighed my 2452 when I brought it home for the year last sunday. The boat with all the gear, 1/2 tank of gas 5 gallons of water and 5 lb of the summers collection of green slimeys weighed in at 6094 lb with 528 hitch weight:)

Re: My Bayliner Classic Cruiser 2452

this is interesting, my boat doesn't have a whaletail (stingray or whatever) it does, however have the Bennett trim tabs as supplied by Doral from new. Several people have told me that I NEED to install one before launching in the spring. I've had them on my last 2 boats that didn't have trim tabs and they did work good, but if i don't need one, especially if they increase drag...so much to research >.<

That boat would be DOUBLE AWESOME with a full cockpit enclosure. It would double the camping/useable space.

Is that kinda enclosure common to Bayliners? My aunt n uncles 87 34' Avanti is the same way, the back drops staight down from the arch leaving the cockpit open. They have plans to fix that, guess it was cheaper for bayliner lol

In the picture this is the stock set up from Bayliner , when I bought mine it had a complete cockpit enclosure. In most situations we take off everything but the top,it works very well as a sun shade but not so well for rain, drips into the cocpit. I dont have any digital pics but will try to dig up a photo and scan it and post it in the next few days

Outside of the Discovery series, the 245 hard top is my favorite Bayliner. About 5 or 6 years ago wife and I were at a boat show and seriously were considering buying one. I think it was the need for a bigger tow vehicle that put us off.
