I got this boat last weekend. It's a 1996 Starcraft 160T. It's got a 60 hp Mariner Tiller and the boat and motor are in excellent shape. Probably under 50 hours. I'm pretty excited but have to wait 4-5 months before I use it!

Probably gonna get the snomobile out tonight!

I've never seen a boat like this. A fiberglass 16.5 ft fishing boat... Anyone else ever seen this boat?
Dman

Good Luck with it.It does have a familiar look though most starcrafts dont look like that. The trailer looks good,if I were you I would take a long weekend and head south and give it a try somewhere. It is something that people always talk about but never actually do.Life is too short to just talk about things, doing them is where its at!!!Charlie

Dman...Ahh, I was in the same position last spring. Once you have checked everything, cleaned everything, sorted the tackle, Re-cleaned everything, Re-checked everything, Re-sorted the tackle. You will start to go crazy according to your family! You will be reduced to setting in the boat with a cup of coffee for endless hours dreaming of the day when you can get her to the ramp. Hardy har har har... Sweet Dreams :D

Well I am glad that you received that fine looking water craft. Now where is your sense of adventure? I have had my boat in the water when we broke ice to get it in. :D

Thats a nice looking boat that can get you to where the fish are. It looks like it has also been well cared for.

As for the day you get to use it, there will be plenty of those days ahead and for the next few months you can enjoy your sled.

Kevin

Good lookin' rig, I assume you got a good deal on it. Are you going to keep it as a tiller, or maybe convert to a remote steering/control set-up?

Hey DMan, Nice looking boat. I know I'd end up like Neumanns. I can even see myself sitting in the trailered boat, drinking Coffee or Margaritas. I know it would finally end up with me bundled up like the Michelin man, for a cold tryout, somewhere. Maybe, the Snowmobile might help keep my sanity, if I didn't have one of those, and just the boat, all wintered in the garage, the Neighbors would definatly be talking about the dude in the boat, in the Garage. :D

Hope you get to try it out soon, life is too short!

Re: My boat for Christmas

I did the exact same thing last year. Bought a brand new boat on 12/2/03....just as the lake froze over. Same this year! Gotta get my seasons straight. There's about 5 inches of ice on the lake now. No chance at breakin' that to try it out!
I think the neighbors are already talking about the crazy guy that is always in the garage working on something.
I really enjoy the extra room with the tiller and for control of the boat. Plus, being a 16.5 ft, a consol would really take a lot of space.
I've never seen a 1996 boat in the excellent shape as this one! Bigger boat, bigger waters, bigger fish! At least in theory!!
DMan

I think a road trip is in order Dman...

Why don't you take a week or two off, bring that nice new boat down to Florida and do some fishing in the Big Bend area of the Gulf???

Leave the snowmobile, you won't need it...

We'll see how hard it is to handle. I have a 30 hp tiller now. With adjustments, I should be able to eliminate some of steering torque.
It's gonna be nice to try out....in 4-5 months.
Getting the shanty ready now.
D

Dman, if you really want to get on the water drive down to Red Wing, MN and cruise the River. It's open year round. I would put in at Everts Resort or Baypoint Park.

Neumanns, It's good to know that in the spring I'm not the only one spending countless hours in the garage. Just sitting there. I ussually have a few beers instead of the coffee.

WOW, It matches the sled perfectly.
I bet your favorite color is blue.

I saw a huge tiller motor on a boat at the sport show last year. It was set up with a "powersterring" system, that made it easy to turn, yet controlled the motor so it couldn't turn too fast.

DMAN

NICE find! I had a '71 Starcraft fiberglass tri-hull. Ran that boat for 20 years, lots! of waterskiing etc. It held up better than the '91 Rinker I traded it in on. No stress cracks at all. Hope yours is just as well made!

Interior View. One thing I really like is that all the doors and hatches are composite, not wood.
Only wood is in the floor. Therefore, it's light and strong.
D

You guys are lucky - I don't have a garage so when I want to hang out on my boat in the middle of the cold winter with some coffee, it's on the side of the road.. beat that!
