I bought an 81 carver mariner which needed some repair. I like the boat but one fix is beyond me. Those long windows down each side of the salon leak quite a bit. Does anyone know the best way to cure this problem?

I have a 79 mariner the windows didn't leak but the aluminum strip above the window was coming off. I had to dig out the rotted wood & filled with stips of plywood so I had something to hold the trim pcs. Check out this web site for mariner owners lots of useful info.

The only correct way is removing the windows and resealing everything, but with a 81 boat I think you're going to find more problems than you expect to.

Re: My boat is leaking

Here is a solution that I found to be very effective. I installed rubber marine guttering over my previously leaking aft cabin windows. No more leaks. One guttering strip came loose at one end, and the company sent me a new one free. After one full year of use, I highly recommend it. No matter how often you reseal aluminum window frames, they expand and contract at different rates than the fiberglass and sealing materials, and leaks reform.

I assure you I have no relationship to this company other than being a very satisfied customer.
