Under US law copyright is automatic.Hmm, I think I am going to get beat up for this next comment, I think when you post a picture in a public forum (Craigslist would be one) the picture becomes public domain and can be used by anyone unless it is copy righted (registered).
You are right but I was just posting the fact that you don't have to register or anything to have a copyright on a picture. There aren't enough copyright cops in the world to go after all those that misuse ?ed photos. When they do it's for gross misuse, not onesies, twosies. So a threat to turn in a CL poster using one is basically empty.

He was either to lazy, or your boat looks better that the actual one he has. Or both!
Even if you took it to court on principal. The judge will ask how much money you lost because he used your photo. Zero?
That is what you would get if you won the case.
Just let it go and live your life in peace.

I saw an ad on kijiji (Canadian CL), the ad was for an 1968 shelby mustang. The ad show this pristine condition car for 5k or best offer. The ad reported it was her late husband car and that she did not really know what the value of the car was. I think the scam was to take deposits on the car and of course never deliver. I guess the idea here is to take advantage of greed on both sides, seller and buyer.
