Question: Easiest way to remove foam and fiberglassed stringers? I thought I was golden dry foam...little place in a stringer that needed to be removed. Until I did the drill test.

I like clean threads. Just a little thing I am OCD on. Every car I've bought and completely redone I had a question thread and a restore thread. How tos are the same way. Most of the time it was due to forum rules. Because a lot of people like to click on a thread that will show them, and they hate shifting through a bunch of text posts when they are not looking for answers.

My question was the best way to get around this lip without ruining the hull or cap. I will get a better picture today. The far off picture shows the rub rail removed, but you can not clearly see the lip. I do a lot of searching, but so far only one thread contains the exact boat I have....mine. That is why my questions are not that close together and if I did have a question I rather wake a thread up than make a new one.

There is no " easy" way. Grinders, pry bars, shovels, etc....lots of work.

I have to read this stripper make sure it does not eat the fiberglass.

I wouldn't want a chisel of any kind near my hull, period. Fiberglass and chisels shouldn't even be in the same sentence.....

Chemical type strippers or sanding equipment is the way to go....

No it is a chemical. And it BURNS the hell out of you. It is just called that. The warnings say it can cause cancer.....lol. I use it at work removing seal glue off the military vehicles.

Whew...never heard of the stuff....just read the label and see what it says about fiberglass.

Yeah I gotta read it. It causes a ton of body related illnesses and cancer to humans. :/

foam is a hard, messy thing to remove.

one thing i like is a pick axe with an awl end......3inch wide....heavy...20 mins and you are done....but its hard work.

another way is with an electric chain saw....comes out like butter.....dont go thru the hull.

once you are thru the foam.....a swaz all does the fiberglass over the wooden stringers.....but if the stringers them selves are chopped glass over foam.....just cut the top off the stringer....and re foam....that glass will still be good.....then just glass over the top after you have re foamed
