My boat took on a lot of water and now it doesn't want to stay running

I just got my boat out of the shop and it was running great. Then the water level was raised and a bunch of waves crashed over my boat. I ran the bilge while I tried to get my boat off the beach. So I don't know exactly how much water it took on. When I got it off shore, it started right up. But after a mile or so it was losing power and eventually died. I got it back to the launch and tried it the next day after I let things air out a bit. It would start up but would die if I didn't give it quite a bit of gas. Does anyone have any ideas about what I should do?

Ok, thanks. I'll check the gas out first.

Yeah, I think that did it. I sucked the gas out and there was some water in it. Thanks for the tip.

Drain the carb bowl(s) too. Most likely lots of water there too.
