My Bunk Converted Trailer

A few threads on the subject prompted me to take a few pics of mine. This trailer came this way with the boat. The original boat owner got tired of the single-axle trailer, and bought this older dual axle (EZ-Loader). He is the one that converted it. It is basicly four sets of two bunks. A set of two can swivel perpendicular to the trailer length, and with it on the square tubing members.

I have used it as is for 4 seasons. It is the old style bolt together trailer, so it rides a bit high. I don't have problems launching at our ramps, and loading is very easy. I have not seen other rollers converted in this way. I would like comments and opinions.

PS: As you can see, I am in the middle of scraping and painting. Original paint was blue, the layer of brown, and top coat of black. Didn't complete before needing to pull boat out. :(

It looks like it has plenty of support.
Good idea.

Thanks. I will let the original owner know his work has the iBoats seal of approval. ;) As I said, have been happy with it, just hadn't seen it done that way by others.

Outside of the first time I loaded the trailer, it has centered perfectly. On that 1st time I set the trailer too deep. Now I go in far enough to wet all the bunks, then pull out so the front ones are out of the water. Bringing the bow into the rear set of bunks aligns it for the second. The trailer was originally built for 6500lb capacity, and has a gear reduction winch. It is actually easier to winch on than my 14' alum and its trailer.

It certainly seems to work well. I have to say I've never even thought of doing it that way. You could always go back to rollers pretty easily, I just did one of mine with all new rollers for only $125 for all the rollers and washers.
The fact that the bunks can swivel has to make loading a lot easier than on a flat bunk trailer.
There looks to be loads of support with that set up, way more than with any roller set up or flat bunks.
