Thanks guys, will be taking plenty pics during the paint phase. Last night we discussed the strategy. Primer should be applied this week then sand where necessary. Then will proceed with the color and finally clear coat. The shop is quite adequate for the frigid weather we are getting this week. Not only a propane furnace but also a wood stove in there that keeps the temps nice and comfortable.
I have to agree the Chiefs are great looking boats and this is one Chieftain project that will be completed.
Primer is down. SE followed by grey primer and over top the grey is the reddish primer which was applied very sparse. The purpose of the red primer was when wet sanded down would show any low spots in the primer that needed smoothed out. You can see in the last pic of the red sanded off. These areas were then shot again with the grey primer and my buddy say all should be well smoothed out then ready for paint. And here I thought I had enough wet sanding earlier this year, lol.
Sorry for the poor quality pics but I had left the card for my camera in the computer so had to use my cell. More pics to come later this week as things progress.
guide coat, even....you guys really are doing the "pro body shop" job. with this kind of prep (and a decent climate controlled work area), you're going to have beautiful results when you topcoat.
To say that I am pleased with the outcome is an understatement. Two coats of the base was applied followed by 2 coats of clear. That was enough for today. Next step is the hull itself. I am thinking she will be proud of her new colors.
Appreciate the compliments. I certainly am looking forward to getting the rest on her.
PC - unfortunately in the pic the dark color appears on the black side but it is actually estate green. The lighting and I guess the camera just doesn't show it but it is a real deep green. I was looking for a dark color to go with the tinted cabin windows.
Jas, the colors by themselves appear pretty flat when dry but come to life when the clear is applied. Wish I could get some better pics but it is tough inside under florescent light. Can't wait to see it outside on a sunny day.
