Nice progress WnW.... looks great! It's always feels great to get the engine back home.

Did you have to do new bellows and shift cables?

Cj, the bellows and shift cable are in fine condition, I did however replace the gimbal bearing.

Dozer & Water it is time that I get it high gear. We are finally getting some sign of spring as it is supposed to get to about 45 today. A lot of ice yet to melt on the Great Lakes but it won't be too far off.

Well so much for spring......another 7 - 8" yesterday. Oh boy, really have had enough of the polar votrex or whatever else they want to call it. Jason, I believe a couple weeks or so you mentioned a warm up?? I am still waiting.

Nothing pic worthy tonight. Transducer cable ran, vhf cable, and GPS antenna cable ran. Finished fit of lauan for the cabin ceiling, applied the foam and the vinyl. A lot on the plan to accomplish this weekend.

That nasty stuff needs to go away.

Not much to complain about here, typical weather for March... 50's and no snow.

Re: My Chieftan project

Got quite a bit more work done the past 2 days. Unfortunately not much to take pics of. The lauan for the cabin ceiling is completed. A layer of foam and then vinyl. It will be installed in the cabin as soon as I finish up running the wires and cables that will be strung in the roof area. Got the pink foam cut to go in the ceiling after the wires are taped up there. You can see them hanging in the doorway.

Got the console installed and the main gauge cluster installed along with the hydraulic steering helm. Have to solder a wire back in the tilt/trim switch before finish installing it. Got my electronics mounted on a board and ready for wiring. My plan is to make a solid enclosure for the electronics that will be bolted into the dash from the underside then use wing nuts on top so my electronics will be removable with the enclosure. Will wire each unit into a 6 wire plug so all I will have to do is unplug that plug and pull off the antenna cables and the unit will lift off.

Working on getting the side bulkhead installed. Good lord that fuel hose is a bear to wrestle with and try to bend around and get out the bulkhead. Once installed will be be able to start working on the seat boxes.

Well looks we may finally turned the corner on the weather. Last 2 days have been pretty nice and the snow is starting to melt. Just hope it stays that way.

Think I am gonna try the heat gun inside the hose and hopefully it will limber it up a bit more but not sure how much that will help as it has wire spiral inside.

That is the hopes. We still have a lot of ice though, harbors are all froze over and the reports on Saginaw Bay is still 25-30" ice.

Looking good WW! :encouragement:

I have tried not to rush the project and have spent many hours sitting in or near the ole gal just debating the things that I wanted to do to her. You are making great progress but as the saying goes..... stop to smell the flowers along the way.

She's looking real good WnW. You know I think if a guy included all the time spent laying awake in bed, with all the time sitting in and next to the boat thinking, it would add up to more than the actual time spent building it.

Very true Glen. Great ideas come from observation and debate in ones mind.

Not sure why I thought I was the only one who did that. :watermelon:

Re: My Chieftan project

and beer........

Why certainly, some of the best creative ideas come while indulging in a few beverages.

Ok, now on to the work.

Installed the new shutter. Such an easy task. As you can see in the pic on the left is what was the old shutter. Yep, pretty much nothing left of it.

Then on to the engine......Installed all the power steering apparatus, pulley, hoses, etc. from the other engine. Gonna pull the pulley back off and do a little paint on it as it was off the other engine also and needs to be cleaned up. But so far all the parts I changed out have matched up well.

On to the port side fuel tank and bulkhead. Bulkhead, fuel lines, and sending unit wiring completed except for the trim piece that goes inside the middle trim piece running horizontally on the bulkhead. It was in the fake wood grain look so it was painted black today and will put it in tomorrow.

Finally all side cabin windows completely installed today. Called the glass co that works with the polycarb and they said just bring the boat by and they will cut, bend, and fit the front cabin window so it will be a one piece window. . . bring it in the morning and it will be done by evening. Said poly will cost $90. Can't argue with that.

Received a couple goodies today in the mail, 6 position switch panel and the hydraulic steering cylinder. Still waiting for my alignment bar and antenna mount.
